Words of Wisdom
As this is the gift giving season, we would like to share some words of wisdom concerning cell phones and their use with our youth. A recent article through Love & Logic talked about how our kids are getting into more and more trouble with their cell phones. Our teens are spending more time in classrooms text messaging, than learning. Teen drivers feel invincible with their ability to text and drive. “It will never happen to them.” A deadly move for sure.As parents we find ourselves in constant battles with our kids over phone bills, lost phones, damaged phones, and their use at in-appropriate times (dinner table, school, during conversations). Those at Love & Logic have given us some suggestions:
* Be a good role model. Show respect for others by turning your phone off when you should, and definitely while driving.
* Let your teens have a phone when they can pay for the privilege.
* If the phone is lost, stolen, or taken away at school, it’s gone. Don’t buy them another one.
*Take it away if it becomes a problem.
Parents who can follow these guidelines will raise more respectful and responsible Teens.
